Instructions

  1. Beat sugar and softened butter together in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium-high speed for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffySmooth, freshly prepared cookie dough in a glass bowl.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture in three additions, mixing on low speed just until combined

  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out chilled dough to 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters and place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets
  6. Place cut cookies in freezer for 10 minutes before baking to prevent spreading
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 6-8 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely before decorating
